Taking Imitrex with Marijuana

If you use the treatment Imitrex for migraines, it can create reactions that are adverse.  Taking this is oftentimes going to create a much higher risk of other side effects, including high blood pressure, and sleepiness. it’s not advised to take both of these things.

What it IS and How it Works

This is something that’s known as a migraine medication, used to treat cluster headaches and migraines. This is used either via a subcutaneous type of way, or orally. Usually, they are done by getting under the skin of the stomach, upper arms, and the thighs.

This is something that helps with easing symptoms of different attacks and isn’t really there to prevent the headaches from going on. This narrows your blood vessels, and it can help with the pain and pressure. This is also activated near the serotonin receptors within the brain, preventing everything from transmitting the different signals that are there. Pain relief also might help with nausea, and the light and sound sensitivities that come with these types of migraines.

This is not used for tension headaches and is used for those who have a history of migraines that tend to be severe. This is also not recommended for everyone that has cardiovascular issues, or high blood pressure readings.

Benefits and Drawbacks

Do you want to still take this? Currently, there are more risks than benefits.

Right now, there isn’t any beneficial moments documented on the combination of sumatriptan and cannabis, and while some do enjoy a calmness that comes from this, it’s not for everyone. Still, with the chance of there being effects that are adverse, you should be cautious about using this, and don’t take it unless your doctor has agreed to let you take this.

The biggest thing is that it does make you sleepy and tired, so you can’t operate vehicles with this one. Combining both of these can make you feel more fatigued, and it can cause DUI charges for those operating cars and the like. It can make you unconscious too.

It also can cause hypertension in people. Those cannabis strains that are high in the THC levels can cause increases in your blood pressure. Combining both of these together creates strong high blood pressure triggers, especially those that suffer from hypertension.

When you take cannabis with this, it actually can make sumatriptan less effective, which causes headaches that rebound. If you have different THC strains that are high, this is something that causes problems with the ways that people ingest stuff, and it can make headaches more of a problem.

What should you do if you plan to use both? The best thing is to talk to your doctor, to figure out different migraine solutions and medications to work with this. You should also discuss with your doctor the possibility of using medical cannabis rather than drugs to treat different migraines that are there too.

Sometimes, this is the best solution, and it’s worth checking out, especially if you already use one or the other.  You should not mix these though, due to the fact that it doesn’t work as effectively, and it can lead to some dire side effects. Both of these can be helpful for you to get the most that you can out of this, and if you suffer from migraines, marijuana might be the better option for your migraines. Talk to a doctor, figure out a plan, and then go from there to decide the best way for you to do this, and the ideal way for you to treat headaches.
